She stops, turning her head and I watch as she gives him a wave and a shy smile. “I don’t know how you do it, and I don’t know how you do it without getting bitch slapped,” Houston announces.

Baby shrugs. “If you had what I got going on down under you wouldn’t have any issues, Hous,” he smiles.

  “Fuck off,” Houston mutters.

I don’t miss Roxanne giving Houston a narrowed glare and I decide to keep my fucking mouth shut about what they got going on. I have a feeling shit is about to get complicated for the prospect. Finishing my burger, I keep my hand high on Carson’s thigh, no matter how many times she tries to squirm out of my grasp.

  CHAPTER NINE

  CARSON

After another five hours of riding down dusty old highways, we finally pull up to a gate and stop. I can’t see much behind it, actually, it looks like a fortress. I frown, wondering exactly where Ace is taking me. I know he said something about dropping the Chuck off with his father, but this doesn’t look like any place a kid needs to be, or me, or Axe.

A man walks out of a small shack. He’s dressed much like Ace, Baby, and Houston. He’s wearing worn-out jeans, a black t-shirt and a leather vest with a bunch of patches sewn all over it. Just like with Ace, I don’t pay attention to what the patches say. I decided the first time I noticed them, that I really didn’t want to know what they all meant. Just like with Sadie, I’m choosing to live in denial. I shouldn’t though, she was a fucking mess.

“You here for Hoss?” the man’s deep voice booms as he looks at the car behind us, the one carrying Axe, Roxie, and the boy.

Ace lifts his chin. “Yeah, I’m Keys from North Dakota, but just transferred up to Canada. We were in Texas on business, came across Chuck, says he’s Hoss’ kid,” he explains.

The man looks behind us again, then grins. “Fuck, looks just like the man when I met him. He’s his all right. Wonder where that no good cunt of a mother wrestled him off to,” he says, spitting on the ground.

“Texas,” Ace says without skipping a beat.

The man lifts his eyes, looks at me, then back to him. “Thinkin’ Hoss will want to hold Church about that shit,” he rasps.

“Thinkin’ you’re absolutely correct. Tomorrow morning though. We been on the road over ten hours today alone,” Ace explains.

The stranger lifts his chin. “Head inside, Hoss is waiting. You can all freshen up, then relax tonight,” he says, giving me a wink.

I’m not sure what his wink means, but I choose to ignore that too, once again living in denial. The gates slowly open, Ace revs his engine and then we’re off, making our way toward the big brick building in front of us.

Once we’re parked, I quickly scramble off of the back of the bike and start to head toward the car. I don’t get far, maybe two steps when I’m yanked by the back of my jeans backward. I slam into a hard body, and I know it’s Ace’s. Even through the dirt and sweat of the day, I can smell him. He breathes against my ear.

“Don’t run off now, Sweet Pea,” he rasps.

I let out a breath, shaking my head a couple of times before I speak. “I just want Axe near me. This, it’s all strange,” I admit on an exhale.

Ace turns me around in his arms. “Sadie never told you,” he mutters. “Thought you knew, Carson.”

I shake my head, turning around in his arms. My eyes drift down his chest and land on his patches. Pressing my lips together, I bring my gaze back up to his, taking in his pretty blue eyes.

“Fuck,” he hisses. “Your sister never told you,” he says, lifting his hand and cupping my cheek. “We’re an MC. That probably don’t mean much to you now, but you’ll figure it out, sooner or later,” he grins.

Lowering his face, his lips brush mine. “I know what an MC is, Ace,” I say smartly.

I don’t tell him that the only reason I know is because Roxanne was obsessed with Sons of Anarchy, and she brought the entire series over. We binged for over a month straight, every night, watching episode after episode. I never told her that Jax Teller was my favorite because he looks so much like Ace. I don’t tell people a lot of things, I keep almost everything to myself, it’s just easier that way.

“Good, they’re going to have a party tonight and you’re going to be by my side,” he announces.

With a frown, I shake my head. “I have to stay with Axe,” I point out.

Ace slowly shakes his head. “Rox, you’re on Axe duty tonight, yeah?” he calls out.

Turning my head to the side, I see Roxanne, Axe, and Chuck walking up to us. “Oh yeah, I’m on Axe duty,” she smiles.

I hear Houston growl from somewhere behind me, but I’m too busy giving Roxie wide eyes, trying to tell her without speaking that I’m not happy, and I want her to save me. She does nothing but smile at me, a Cheshire Cat-type grin. Narrowing my eyes at her, I mouth, you’re dead. She could give a flip, her smile only widens at my words.

“My boy,” a loud voice yells.

We all freeze, turning to see a barrel-chested man standing just outside the door of the building. Chuck pushes past us, almost knocking me down. We watch as he sprints for the man, launching himself into his large waiting arms. Their embrace is almost too intimate and emotional to watch, but I’m too mesmerized to look away.

“You did a good thing,” I whisper, my eyes filled with tears as I look up to Ace.

He grunts. “Kid didn’t deserve to be taken from his father, didn’t deserve where he was being held either,” he states.

“Where was he being held?” I ask.

Something dark flashes in Ace’s eyes but he just shakes his head. “Never mind, Sweet Pea, let’s go inside.”

Without another word, we walk toward the building, Chuck’s father stops us before we can pass him. “Thanks, brother. Thank you for saving my boy,” he says, his voice husky and thick.

Ace lifts a hand, clapping him on the shoulder. “You got a good kid, man. I’d do it again in a fuckin’ heartbeat.”

We continue walking, Ace’s hand falls from his shoulder as we make our way inside of the building. I’m taken aback by the smell of beer, weed, and what I can only describe as musk. There are people littering the room, men dressed identically to Axe and women dressed… well, like hookers for lack of better terminology.

“Down the hall on the right is guest rooms. There’s only three, you’ll have to bunk up,” the father states.

“Thanks, brother. We’ll clean up and then come back to hang,” Ace says.

We all make our tired, weary way toward the hall and bedrooms. In true Ace fashion, he opens the first door and kind of shoves me inside. I turn to ask him about Axe, but he takes my bag from Houston and drops it at my feet.

“Roxie and Axe are next door. The boys are on the other side,” Ace explains, closing the door behind him.

I take a step back, afraid to look around, to look anywhere but directly at him. My chest rises and falls with my breath. Each step forward he advances, I take one back, until I crash against a wall. Ace doesn’t stop though, not when I do, not until he’s pushed up against me. I can feel his hard length pressing against my belly and my breath hitches.

“You’re mine tonight, Carson. I’m not playing any games, I’m not fucking around with you, I want you,” he rasps.

Lifting my chin, I suck in a deep breath and attempt to be as brave as possible. “For how long, once? Twice? Until you get home? Until you’re bored?”

He smirks, his blue eyes darkening just a touch. “Sweet Pea,” he murmurs, wrapping his hands around my hips before he slides them to my sore ass. I barely hold in a groan as he massages my globes. “I have a feeling I’ll never get bored with you in my bed,” he chuckles, leaning forward, his lips brushing mine. “Or out of it.”

“You’re terrible, and it’s wrong. You were with my sister,” I exhale, my own voice not sounding the least bit convincing, even to myself.

Ace kisses down my cheek, then my jaw, making a trail over to my lips. Resting his mouth
against mine, he finally speaks after what feels like long moments of silence. “Carson. Your sister was a fun time. She was a good fuck, but she made me goddamn miserable and I did the same to her,” he whispers.

I close my eyes, his words about my sister stinging, yet scarily accurate. “What does that make me then?” I ask as I reopen them and look directly into his haunting blue gaze.

Ace brings his hands up, placing them on either side of my head against the wall. He pushes off and takes a couple steps back. “You wanting some kind of commitment from me? Is that what this is?” he asks, his voice turning harsh.

Shaking my head, I shrug. “I don’t know what I’m asking, Ace. I do know that I’m not Sadie. I can’t brush you off and run away when this goes really bad. I just can’t. I have to think about Axe. I’m his only mother-figure, and I’ll never leave him.”

Ace lifts his hand, running his fingers through his hair before his eyes find mine. “Shower, clean up, meet me at the bar. I don’t plan on running you off anytime soon, Carson. I also ain’t making any kind of commitment to a woman I haven’t even been inside of yet, so you can take that goddamn shit off the table,” he growls.

My mouth opens, then snaps closed, watching as he turns and stomps out of the room, slamming the door behind him. I lift my fingers to my mouth, wondering why I keep begging him for an explanation, for more, when he’s absolutely right. I need to stop questioning him and just go with the flow. Why do I have to question every fucking thing.

  KEYS

I’M on my third beer when it happens. I hear Houston clear his throat. He wraps his hand around my shoulder and murmurs a good luck to me. I know what that means. I know it means that Carson is on her way over to me. I didn’t tell him about our fight, or whatever the fuck it was, I didn’t need to. He’s going through his own shit with Roxie.

After leaving Carson’s room, I went to get Axe some dinner, then spend some time with him. The kid is a fuckin’ crack up, and I’ll be glad when we’re settled back up north once and for all. He’s been a little trooper this trip, so far.

I don’t turn around completely in my seat. Instead, I tilt my head to the side to watch her walk up to me in my peripheral vision. She’s wearing another pair of skin-tight jeans, but instead of a loose t-shirt or tank, she’s wearing an off the shoulder tight as fuck top. It’s tucked into her pants, and it gives her a sexy hourglass figure in comparison to her otherwise lithe long body.

I feel her cool hand on my forearm and only then do I turn a little more toward her. “I’ve never done anything like this. When I say that, Ace, you have to understand that my life has been work and Axe. I haven’t dated, I haven’t done casual, I haven’t done anything.”

Frowning, I wonder if this is her way of telling me that she’s a virgin. She was tight as fuck when my fingers were inside of her. It could be fucking possible I suppose. “Explain, anything,” I grind out.

Her sweet little bottom lip sticks out, and her round blue eyes meet mine. “I’m not a virgin, but it was only one guy for a couple months. I ended it when Sadie died, I needed to focus on Axe,” she admits.

Switching my beer into my opposite hand, I lift my fingers and tuck her hair behind her ear. “You put your life on hold for my son. Ended a relationship for him,” I say, my words just tumbling out of my mouth without care or thought.

“I did. You make it sound like some great sacrifice, Ace. It wasn’t, Levi was just a boy in town, he didn’t even care when I broke it off with him,” she shrugs.

“Are you trying to tell me you didn’t have any prospects, Sweet Pea?” I ask, a chuckle escaping my throat.

Her eyes narrow at my laugh, but then her shoulders shortly deflate. “I’m not telling you anything but the truth. Four years and I wasn’t even asked out on a date. Not that I would go, I’m just saying,” she shrugs.

Hooking my fingers in her belt loops, I widen my legs and roughly tug her between my thighs. Sliding one of my hands up her spine, I tangle my fingers in her hair and pull her toward me a bit. I inhale her sweet fresh scent, pressing my lips to hers. I slide my tongue along her seam, demanding my entrance. Her mouth opens, and I swipe my tongue around, tasting her, consuming her, just as much as she completely consumes me.

“Carson, I don’t know what the future will bring. Fuck, I don’t even know what tomorrow will bring. What I do know is that I want you, and you want me.”

She nods, it’s slight, but it’s the only permission I need. My hands wrap around her hips, squeezing her, wishing we were naked. I press my lips against hers hard, showing my ownership of her in the middle of this clubhouse.

Carson is mine and tonight I’m taking all of her.

  CHAPTER TEN

  CARSON

I EXPECTED A WILD PARTY, but my definition of wild and theirs are totally different. I watch as a woman stands on the top of the bar, she’s completely naked as she dances for the men sitting beneath her—where I was sitting just a few minutes ago.

Ace is behind me, his hand still protectively wrapped around my hip. I can feel his hard length against my back and I have no doubt it’s for the extremely busty woman who is playing with her tits at the moment. It feels wrong. All of it. I want to go to bed.

Looking down at my feet, I let out a sigh. I tell myself that I’m not feeling self-conscious. It’s a lie, I am, but then again who wouldn’t? Especially with a curvy naked woman giving a show up in the middle of a bar? Especially since I’ll probably never possess the curves she’s sporting.

“Fuck, you gotta see this shit. It’s what she’s famous for,” Charlie’s father, Hoss says, a laugh clear in his voice.

He’s sitting next to Ace, drinking from a bottle of hard liquor. They’ve been quietly chatting all evening, their voices too low for me to hear over the loud heavy rock music that blares through the room. I glance back up at the woman, curious as to why she just must be watched.

She spreads her legs wide, bending her knees and slowly lowering down. She reaches into one of the men’s drinks and pulls out an ice cube. I watch, assuming that she’s going to rub it all over her breasts. She doesn’t. Instead, she slips it between her legs—inside of her.

  Inside.Of.Her.

The man tips his head back, his buddies laughing all around him. I gasp, surely what I think is about to happen, isn’t going to happen.

  Then…. It does.

She tilts her hips, and the ice cube goes flying into the man’s waiting mouth. Straight from her vagina into his mouth.

  Into.His.Mouth.

Turning my head, I tip it back and look up into Ace’s blue eyes. He dips his chin, his gaze finding mine, a smile on his lips. He’s drunk, he’s happy, and this is the lifestyle he enjoys. He’s completely relaxed in this room of sex and booze.

No wonder my sister latched onto him. No wonder they fit so perfectly. If he thinks that I’m going to somehow change and become like that woman on the bar, then he’s lost his fucking mind. Turning my head away from his, I chance looking around the room again.

My breathing starts to come out in pants, men and women are involved in various sexual acts. Some of them are even in groups. I’ve never seen anything like it before. I should be disgusted. Granted, I feel a bit uncomfortable, but I find myself more mesmerized than disgusted. I mean, if Ace thinks I’m going to partake in that, he’s dead wrong, but there’s no harm in watching. They obviously want me to.

Ace’s lips on the side of my neck cause me to jump. They slowly trail up to my ear. “Sweet Pea, you want to fuck another girl with me? I could get down,” he rasps.

Turning my body around, I notice that his friend is gone and we’re alone against the wall, tucked away in the dark. “This is all what you want, this is really your life,” I say. It isn’t a question, more like a statement.

He lifts his face, his eyes scanning the room slowly, then they come back to me. “Carson, this is the life I’ve had since I was seventeen years old. Graduated high school and this was my dream, to b
e a Notorious Devil. Didn’t really set any other lifelong goals for myself other than prospecting and joining the brotherhood,” he states, his eyes darkening just slightly.

I think about having to live like this, like one of these women in this bar. Then I frown, thinking about Axe living like this. Maybe my sister running, and staying away, from Ace was a smarter idea than I thought.

“This isn’t what I thought it would be like,” I admit.

He tilts his head to the side, confusion marring his features. “Sweet Pea, what do you think this is exactly?”

Clearing my throat, I connect my gaze to his, holding it and keeping it. “I can’t be like these women, Ace. I can’t have sex out here, do that thing she did with her vagina to strangers,” I say, hooking my thumb behind me to the woman at the bar. “I completely understand the appeal, maybe I should be more open, but I don’t think that I can be. Not like this, and I don’t think Axe should be exposed to this lifestyle,” I say, attempting to sound firm, but knowingly failing.

Ace’s eyes lighten, and they sparkle right in front of me. I watch it happen, it’s breathtaking and then he smiles right before he tips his head back and lets out a laugh. A true uninhibited laugh, and if it weren’t so damn sexy, I would be hurt that he’s laughing at me right now.

He lowers his head, his mouth brushing mine, causing my panting breaths to return. “Wouldn’t want anyone to see your naked body, Carson. It’s mine, remember, not theirs. Axe won’t ever be exposed to this shit, not until he’s old enough to understand what it’s about. Kids are kept away from parties like these. We have family events that they come to, but as soon as the whores appear, the kids are outta there,” he explains.

  “Whores?” I whisper.

He nods. “These naked bitches, they’re whores, Sweet Pea. They fuck whoever wants to fuck, whenever, and the price is protection and a free place to stay with food. They choose to live here, they can leave anytime they want. These women want it, Carson. They fucking love it,” he grins.
